Club Meetings In 2011

 

The Central Virginia Civil War Collectors Association now meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month (except December) at 7:15 p.m., at American Legion Post 244 located at 2522 Indale Rd. in Glen Allen, Virginia (See map above). Activities include presentations related to Civil War artifacts and history, guest speakers, and light refreshments.  A “Best Dug Relic of the Month” competition and award is one of many meeting highlights.

 

The current meeting schedule and programs for 2011 :

 

January 25   (4th Tuesday)

This month’s meeting will focus on "Our Civil War Ancestors".   Members and visitors are encouraged to bring in any artifacts, letters, pictures, etc. of any family members related to yourself or your spouse who served in the war.

 

February 22   (4th Tuesday)

Sara Pace from the Henrico County Historical Society presents “Henrico County Commemorating 400 years of History and the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War.” A presentation describing the planned events, lectures and displays that Henrico is planning. This will be a very interesting meeting.

 

March   22   (4th Tuesday)

Henry Kidd presents “The Art of History: The history and research behind Henry Kidd historical artwork”.

 

April 26   (4th Tuesday)

Mike Singer will present a program on “Patriotic Pins during the Civil War”.

 

May 24  (4th Tuesday)

John Frawner will present a program on the "R. E. Lee Camp Soldier’s Home".   His talk will cover the history of the soldier’s home that occupied the site where the Virginia Art Museum is today. If you have items in your collection that are related to the home or to Confederate veterans, bring them in to share.

 

June 28  (4th Tuesday)

The June meeting will be "Cavalry Night".   We are asking members to bring in items that are related to the mounted forces during the war.  This can be buttons, weapons, pictures etc. This type of meeting has always been a favorite and is well attended.

 

July 26  (4th Tuesday)

Parry Bragg presents “Coins of the War of Northern Aggression”. It will cover coins, tokens, Sutler’s coins and store cards. Members are encouraged to bring in similar items from their collections.

 

August 23  (4th Tuesday)

Relic Book Night. Dennis Madison will lead a discussion on relic books. Dennis will be bringing many of his own books and encourages members to bring in some of their own favorites.

September 27  (4th Tuesday)

Favorite Relic Night.  September is the month for our annual  Favorite Relic Night when members are encouraged to bring in their favorite items (dug and non-dug). 

 

October 25  (4th Tuesday)

Museum of the Confederacy Meeting.  Details will be announced at a later date.

 

November 22  (4th Tuesday)

David Deal of the Hanover Tavern Foundation will give a presentation on "Hanover Tavern in the Civil War".

December  (No Meeting In December)
